MINISTER OF ENERGY,
COMMUNICATIONS & MULTIMEDIA LAUNCHES TELEKOM
MALAYSIA'S LIFESTYLE PORTAL BLUEHYPPO.COM
Kuala Lumpur, 15/4/2001 Minister of Energy,
Communications & Multimedia, Yang Berhormat
Datuk Amar Leo Moggie today launched Telekom
Malaysia's lifestyle portal, BlueHyppo.com.
Also present at the launching ceremony was
the Chief Executive of Telekom Malaysia, Dato'
Dr. Md. Khir bin Abdul Rahman.
BlueHyppo.com is Telekom Malaysia's latest
web-related venture adding to a growing array
of products and services the Group has introduced
to the Malaysian market. As a home-grown product,
the portal is yet another manifestation of
the pool of knowledge and expertise available
within the Group in the dynamic information,
communication and technology (ICT) business.
BlueHyppo.com promises to be like no other
lifestyle portal. The name itself is evocative
of the seemingly limitless capabilities and
size of the portal. Six popular channels will
be available at launch, with plans to offer
many more channels progressively. In terms
of content, the portal has been designed as
a one-stop destination appealing to a wide
spectrum of web surfers. The outstanding content
includes something to suit every taste, including
updates on global and local issues, the latest
from the world of finance, sports, entertainment
news, fashion highlights, career tips, pointers
on working out, hip-hop, bites to bytes and
the best eating places. There will even be
a special section on Islamic lifestyle and
a comprehensive Chinese portlet. Many other
features are currently under development and
will be launched to keep pace with current
trends and surfer interests.
Aside from content, BlueHyppo.com offers
a host of other value-added services. Surfers
will be able to browse the web, keep in touch
with free web mail or create their own space
on the worldwide web. Die-hard shoppers can
list items for sale or exchange at a lively
auction site or look up bargains in the classified
section. Users can store files and images
in the free hard disk space provided or they
can take advantage of the instant messaging
functions to chat and make new friends. There
are also extensive forums surfers can join
and discuss or exchange ideas and views with
others on issues of topical interest.
The launch of BlueHyppo.com will be backed
by an extensive advertising and promotion
blitz that will be conducted throughout the
year. The campaign will be extended to merchandising,
road shows and special publicity events all
of which are designed to create awareness,
imprint brand imaging and build consumer loyalty.
BlueHyppo.com is expected to generate an
estimated 120 million page views in its first
year alone. This figure is expected to grow
exponentially to more than two billion page
views by the year 2005, making BlueHyppo.com
Malaysia's most popular home-grown portal.
Advertisers are therefore presented with a
unique opportunity to connect with a new generation
of young, highly educated and affluent Malaysian
consumers. Tapping the inherent synergy with
Telekom Malaysia's TMnet and Netmyne, advertisers
on BlueHyppo.com can widen the reach and effectiveness
of their communications.
In developing BlueHyppo.com, Telekom Malaysia
is joining the government's initiatives to
transform the Malaysian economy into one that
is knowledge-based. In the new Digital Economy,
the Internet is set to play an important role
in transforming the way we live, work and
play. With its diverse and outstanding content,
BlueHyppo.com will serve as an excellent entry
point for Malaysians to become Internet savvy.
Telekom Malaysia is also committed to bridging
the digital divide that exists between the
urban and rural areas. In this regard, Telekom
Malaysia has recently entered into a strategic
alliance agreement with a local ICT company
to provide the Malaysian public with easy
access to TMnet by offering its services through
non-traditional personal computer domain.
The launch of BlueHyppo.com will complement
the Group's efforts in this area, by encouraging
users to access the Internet and be a participant
in the global digital community.
